Government give Shipley £25 million regeneration pot

Shipley have today been handed £25 million to spend transforming the area as part of Government’s commitment to regeneration and job creation.

The cash from the Town Fund will be announced by Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick and spent on capital projects, designed to improve connectivity, land use, economic and cultural assets, as well as skills and enterprise infrastructure in the town.

Shipley MP Philip Davies said:

“I have been lobbying hard for government support for our area, setting out the case for regeneration and I am thrilled the government listened and has seen how much potential the Shipley constituency has and what investing in it can achieve.

“I am delighted this money will be handed specifically for Shipley by the government. This is a huge vote of confidence in Shipley by this Conservative government.

“I am extremely grateful to everyone who came together on the Town Fund Board for Shipley to put together this successful bid, not least the Chairman Adam Clerkin. Their dedication is very much appreciated and has been rewarded”

Mr Davies, along with business leaders, community stakeholders and representatives from Bradford Council, made up the Town Deal Board and submitted the Shipley Town Investment Plan and their proposed schemes to Government for consideration.

All proposals were judged against a strict criterion and the Town Deal Board also made the case that Shipley had the potential to make a major contribution in the coming years to the country’s economic recovery following the pandemic.
