Continuing Growth Triggers Expansion and New Location for CMbE

CarnaudMetalbox Engineering announce they have expanded their facilities.

In order to keep up with ever-growing demand, CMbE took the decision to increase its manufacturing capabilities during the second half of 2019. This culminated in the long-term lease of an industrial unit only minutes from the main site – Unit 9 Hirstwood Works.

The new site came complete with four travelling overhead cranes to support safer assembly operations, three bays and two full height shutter access doors. The 1,906m2 (20,448 ft) site also includes offices, canteen area and dedicated parking spaces.

This new addition increases the company’s facilities to 180,000 ft2, enabling us to expand our production capacity to keep up with the increase in activity. This expansion further cements CMbE’s future ability to provide can makers with a full can making solution.

Tony Podmore, CMbE’s Manufacturing Engineering Manager says:
”Due to business growth, the need to expand our assembly working space became a real challenge at the end of 2019. The expansion project to convert Unit 9 Hirstwood Works into a safe and usable space had multifaceted challenges. From the end of December 2019 to March 2020 a cross functional team from CMbE, worked through these challenges with external stakeholders to deliver a safe and fully functional flexible working space, ensuring CMbE could maintain our customer commitments and deliver on time – which was even more impressive given the challenges presented by the current crisis”
